Cebu Institute of Technology – University (CIT University) continues to uplift local communities through its community outreach programs, as seen in the recent design packaging training conducted by the university’s Marketing Office. The event, entitled “Harvest to Home: Crafting Simple and Impactful Package Designs,” was held on April 5-6, 2024, at the Lamac Multi-Purpose Cooperative headquarters in Pinamungajan, Cebu. Spearheaded by the Community Extension Services Office, led by Dr. Luni Villacastin, the initiative aimed to enhance product packaging for local enterprises.
The training provided cutting-edge design and marketing strategies using easily accessible, user-friendly web-based tools. CIT University collaborated closely with the cooperative’s marketing, HR, and front office departments in a dynamic learning environment. Participants were empowered with skills in product packaging design, which they applied in a trial design for Cara Milk Beauty Soap, one of the cooperative’s featured products.

A key part of the event was a comprehensive tour of Lamac Multi-Purpose Cooperative’s facilities. This gave CIT University participants valuable insights into the cooperative’s operational excellence and sustainability efforts. The initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 8, which promotes decent work and economic growth by supporting local enterprises and enhancing their products. It also supports Goal 12, responsible consumption and production, as the packaging practices introduced during the training emphasized eco-friendly, impactful designs. Furthermore, the collaboration exemplifies Goal 17, partnerships for the goals, highlighting how strong alliances between institutions like CIT University and local cooperatives can drive community empowerment and sustainable development.

This initiative marks another step toward CIT University’s mission of empowering local enterprises through sustainable practices and innovative community engagement. The university remains committed to supporting its partners in their ongoing efforts toward sustainable development.
