COMMUNITY EXTENSION SERVICES

The office of the Community Extension Services (CES) is the official arm of the institution to carry out the third function of a higher education institution – i.e., EXTENSION.
It provides opportunities for the members of CIT – University to exemplify the spirit of concern and communal participation in bringing assistance to the needy through outreach programs and activities. This, in a way, expands the simple teacher-student off-campus activities to a full-blown service to the community.

CES Extension Activities/Outreach Programs

Educational/Literacy Development Program

Enhances literacy, numeracy, academic competencies, digital skills, and lifelong learning opportunities among learners and community members.

Socio-Economic Development Program

Promotes livelihood, entrepreneurship, skills training, and income-generating opportunities to help improve the economic well-being and self-reliance of individuals and communities.

Health, Wellness, and Fitness Development Program

Promotes healthy lifestyles, physical fitness, mental well-being, disease prevention, and overall wellness through relevant activities and health education.

Environmental Development Program

Encourages environmental awareness, conservation, sustainability, proper waste management, and active community participation in protecting natural resources.

Outreach Development Program

Extends assistance and support to underserved communities through humanitarian activities, volunteerism, disaster response, and community-based initiatives.

Requirements: Faculty Undertaking Waiver/Student Waivers/Project Proposal/Choose a partner community.

CES Procedural Guidelines

1.

Pre-entry

Meet the key people int the community and conduct orientation about the university and its program for extension.

2.

Formalize Entry for Community Partnership

Enter into Memorandum of Agreement. Usually the community that is selected is one that is economically challenged and marginalized. The terms and responsibilities for the school and the community are contained in the Memorandum of Agreement.

3.

Conduct Needs Assessment Survey

Gather data about the community through the Needs Assessment Survey to get substantial Profile of the Community.

4.

Planning and Preparation

Discuss with heads/coordinators the the results of the survey and determine areas of the collaboration. Assess the capacity of each College to respond to problems and concerns of the community. Draw a comprehensive plan including calendar activities.

5.

Launch the Community Projects

Implement projects and, Provide technical assistance.

6.

Monitoring and Evaluation

Conduct regular visits to the project sites to ensure implementation; Document all projects from its inception until the completion, and; Evaluate projects as bases for improvement and formulation of future programs.

PROPOSED GUIDELINES TO BE OBSERVED BY STUDENT ORGANIZATION IN CONDUCTING A CES ACTIVITY

1.

Make a proposal of your activity to be submitted to the office of the Community Extension. In your proposal, include the following information(see samples at the CES office):

  • Title
  • Objectives
  • Rationale
  • Venue, Date and Time
  • Beneficiary
  • Potential Partners
  • Success Indicators
  • Name of Proponents

2.

Once the proposal is approved, write a letter addressed to the University President and Include CES in the recommending approval. Prepare the letter at least a week prior to the implementation period to give time for the other concerned officials to sign the letter.

3.

After the letter is duly approved, furnish copies to CES and other offices involved.

4.

Notify the barangay or other key persons about the upcoming activity.

5.

Coordinate with the CES in order to execute the plan smoothly and surely.

6.

Assign committees to handle specific areas to prevent mishaps form occurring.

7.

Ensure that the venue, participants, materials needed, and other aspects of the activity are well-prepared for.

8.

Foresee possible hindrances and prepare appropriately in advance for when they happen.

9.

Assure safety and security of all the participants, volunteers, etc. during the activity.

10.

After the activity, submit the following documents to the CES office:

  • Approved Letter
  • Program of the activity
  • Attendance Sheets (for volunteers and beneficiaries)
  • Pictures with caption
  • Evaluation (for volunteers and beneficiaries)
  • Narrative Report

Student Concerns/Assistance
Students who are planning to conduct or participate in Community Extension Services (CES) activities, community engagement initiatives, volunteer programs, outreach activities, or other NSTP- and CES-related projects may refer their concerns, proposals, and requests to our office for proper guidance and coordination.

Functions of the Office

1.

Prepares, conducts, and facilitates extension services utilizing the various resources of the institution to promote productive community life and responsible citizenship;

2.

Formulates and implements policies congruent with the school’s thrust, priorities and plans for community and extension services;

3.

Promotes community and extension service activities in collaboration with other units and outside agencies;

4.

Addresses social and economic issues that affect the Filipino family through advocacy, lobbying, education, and involvement in social actions, and;

5.

Ensure that all experiences and achievements in community extension are documented, evaluated, synthesized, and communicated to all sectors within and outside the school.

Note: Submit all required and relevant documents for CES activities to ensure proper review, approval, coordination, implementation, monitoring, and documentation of the proposed activity.
