Cebu Institute of Technology–University (CIT-U), a top Philippine university, proudly participated in the Flood Hero Cebu Summit spearheaded by the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI). The summit brought together civic leaders, university students, and business leaders to work together in coming up with practical and attainable solutions to one of Cebu’s most urgent challenges—flooding.

Representing CIT-U were students from the National Service Training Program (NSTP) under the leadership of Dr. Luni Villacastin, Head of the Community and Extension Services (CES) Office. Close to 2,000 CIT-U students have participated in this initiative, reflecting the university’s culture of excellence and commitment to equipping students with opportunities for meaningful community engagement, helping them grow not only as future professionals but also as responsible citizens dedicated to addressing real-world issues.

Further cementing CIT-U’s role as an SDG University, the discussions during the summit aligned strongly with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, wherein addressing the flooding situation directly supports the creation of safer, more resilient, and sustainable urban communities; SDG 13: Climate Action, recognizing flooding as a climate-related challenge, the summit underscored the need for proactive adaptation measures and environmental stewardship; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, the event itself was a testament to collaboration, uniting government, academe, industry, and communities to achieve shared solutions.
Anchored on CIT-U’s core values of teamwork and universality, the university emphasizes that true progress happens when all sectors work hand in hand. By engaging its students in initiatives like the Flood Hero Cebu Summit, CIT-U continues to nurture leaders who are not only academically excellent but also deeply rooted in civic responsibility.
Together with stakeholders and the broader community, CIT-U stands firm in its vision to #LeadTheFuture toward a flood-resilient, safer, and more sustainable Cebu.
