How do we prepare future graduates to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world? At CIT University, we believe the answer lies in giving students meaningful exposure to global perspectives that sharpen their skills and broaden their horizons.

Our AB English in Applied Linguistics students underwent a unique opportunity to learn from Dr. Faramarz Samifanni, a Canadian professor based in Fukuoka, Japan. With over 30 years of experience in English Language Teaching and intercultural education, Dr. Samifanni brought invaluable insights into the realities of global classrooms and the vital role of cultural competence in education.

This initiative, spearheaded by the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education through Dr. Nona B. Suerte, showcased CIT University’s enduring commitment to a culture of excellence and international collaboration.

Dr. Samifanni’s talk offered participants a choice between two equally impactful themes, including “Intercultural Communication Competence in ELT: Pedagogical Frameworks and Practice across Cultures”, a research-driven exploration of how teachers can equip learners with the skills to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries; “Teaching English in Japan: A Canadian Educator’s Reflections and Classroom Realities”, a candid look into the challenges and opportunities of teaching English in one of Asia’s most dynamic educational landscapes.

Both lectures reflected his ongoing KAKENHI-funded project on intercultural communicative competence, further reinforcing the academic rigor and global relevance of the session.

As a recognized SDG University, CIT University consistently integrates global awareness and intercultural dialogue into the student experience. With this lecture, our students experienced more than an academic event, but also a reminder that excellence in education means preparing learners not just for local careers, but for international opportunities.

Our students were also introduced to a wider opportunity where they got a chance to connect theory with lived experience, guided by a scholar who has successfully navigated diverse teaching environments. For our faculty and graduate students, it was an opened door for more research frontiers and explore new pedagogical frameworks.

Furthermore, this event reflects the kind of graduates we are shaping: professionals who are globally attuned, adaptable, and skilled in cross-cultural communication. By fostering connections with international educators and researchers, CIT University, a top Philippine university, positions itself as a trusted partner in producing future-ready talent.

With its culture of excellence and a proud legacy as Cebu’s distinguished engineering university, CIT University continues to bridge classroom learning with global impact. Events like this affirm that at CIT, education goes beyond knowledge—it builds competence, character, and confidence for the world stage.
