Cebu City, Philippines — September 4, 2026. Cebu Institute of Technology – University (CIT University) strengthened its academic network by formalizing an academic partnership with the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA – Las Piñas (UPHSD-LP).
The two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) during a ceremony held at CIT University. The agreement provides a framework for collaboration in education, research, training, community extension, quality assurance, and other areas of mutual academic interest.
UPHSD-LP President Dr. Anthony Jose M. Tamayo and CIT University President Engr. Bernard Nicolas E. Villamor represented their respective institutions during the signing.
Building an Academic Partnership
The CIT University academic partnership reflects a shared commitment to educational, scientific, and technical cooperation. It also supports values formation, research, training, and a culture of service.
Through the MOU, both universities can combine their expertise, resources, and institutional strengths. This approach can create opportunities for sustainable cooperation and broader academic impact.
The partnership covers several academic areas. These include Engineering and Architecture, Management and Business Accountancy, Arts, Sciences, Education, and the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP).
Both institutions may also pursue joint research projects, faculty and staff training, lectures, seminars, and other academic activities. In addition, they can exchange strategies and resources for community extension.
The agreement also supports the sharing of scientific information and materials. Quality assurance activities form another area of potential collaboration.
Opportunities for Technologian Students
For CIT University, the partnership creates more opportunities for academic exchange and institutional learning.
Faculty members and academic units can explore collaborative research with their counterparts at UPHSD-LP. They can also share research methods, teaching practices, and professional development strategies.
These opportunities can benefit Technologian students as well.
Joint lectures, seminars, and research activities can introduce students to new perspectives and areas of expertise. Students may also gain exposure to academic environments beyond their regular classrooms.
Furthermore, collaborative activities can strengthen important skills. These include communication, teamwork, inquiry, problem-solving, and professional engagement.
Such skills can help students prepare for workplaces where innovation and knowledge creation increasingly cross institutional and disciplinary boundaries.
Strengthening Community Engagement
The MOU also highlights the importance of community engagement in higher education.
CIT University and UPHSD-LP can exchange community extension strategies and scientific resources. Through this cooperation, both institutions can learn from each other’s approaches to addressing community needs.
As a result, future extension initiatives may become more informed, sustainable, and evidence-based. Faculty members and students can also gain more opportunities to apply academic knowledge through service.
Supporting Research and Institutional Development
The agreement provides a broader platform for both universities to strengthen research and institutional development.
Collaborative research can encourage faculty members to share knowledge and expertise. Meanwhile, training and seminars can support continuous professional development.
The partnership also allows both institutions to exchange practices related to quality assurance. This can encourage institutional learning and continuous improvement.
Where possible, the two universities will pursue cooperation on an equal and reciprocal basis. Designated representatives will identify specific activities, implementation arrangements, responsible officers, and other logistical requirements.
The MOU will remain effective for five years, with provisions for annual renewal thereafter unless either institution terminates or replaces the agreement.
Expanding Opportunities Through Collaboration
The CIT University academic partnership with UPHSD-LP represents more than the signing of an agreement. It marks another step toward an academic environment where learning and collaboration extend beyond institutional boundaries.
For CIT University, partnerships like this support its commitment to responsive and collaborative education. They also connect teaching, research, community service, and professional development.
For every Technologian, the partnership can open more spaces for learning, discovery, professional growth, and meaningful engagement.
