ICYMI: CIT-U’s Autonomous Status: A Badge of Academic Excellence

Cebu Institute of Technology – University (CIT-U) has once again secured its place as one of the country’s most prestigious academic institutions with the renewal of its Autonomous Status from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). This achievement puts CIT-U in an elite group, among the top 4.45 percent of private higher education institutions in the Philippines, affirming its reputation for academic quality, institutional stability, and innovation.
The Autonomous Status provides CIT-U with the flexibility to develop and implement its own academic programs, allowing the university to offer courses that are responsive to the changing needs of students and industries. This privilege also enables the institution to set academic standards that push the boundaries of learning, research, and community engagement, without being restricted by many of the regulatory requirements applied to other schools.
For CIT-U, this renewed status is not just a symbol of past successes but a call to future action. This highlights the university’s dedication to continuously improving its offerings and ensuring that its graduates remain competitive in an ever-evolving world in our commitment to stay aligned to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal on Quality Education (SDG #4) and Reduced Inequalities (SDG #10).
ICYMI: ETEEAP: Pioneering Lifelong Learning

For 25 years, CIT-U’s Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP) has been a beacon of opportunity for working professionals. This innovative program allows individuals with significant work experience to transform their expertise into academic credentials, earning degrees without the need to follow traditional education pathways. It is a testament to CIT-U’s commitment to accessible, flexible education for Filipinos and professionals worldwide.
Since its inception in 1999, ETEEAP has helped thousands of learners locally and internationally to enhance their careers by converting their work experience into academic achievements. According to CIT-U President, Engr. Bernard Nicolas Villamor, “ETEEAP empowers individuals to further their education while making a meaningful contribution to society.” The program recognizes the value of hands-on experience, helping students balance their professional and educational aspirations.
In celebration of its 25th anniversary, CIT-U honored 25 Lifelong Learning Exemplars, individuals who have demonstrated excellence in their fields and a commitment to continuous education. These success stories serve as an inspiration for others to pursue lifelong learning and growth, regardless of their stage in life or career. The impact of ETEEAP extends far beyond the individual, fostering a culture of continuous improvement in the workforce and contributing to national development.

ICYMI: CIT University Stepping Up for Mental Health

As part of the World Mental Health Month celebration, CIT University has taken great strides in promoting mental wellness within its community. The Student Success Office (SSO), in partnership with the Supreme Student Government (SSG), organized an inspiring flash mob at the newly launched Espacio learning space. This lively event, led by SSO Officer-in-Charge Engr. Erlyn Ivy Rago alongside the committed SSG Officers, is aimed at raising awareness on mental health and encouraging everyone to prioritize their well-being.
In addition to the flash mob, a reminder was issued by the CIT University Guidance Center about the dangers of public shaming on social media. As we navigate the digital age, the constant barrage of negative comments can severely impact mental health, leading to feelings of shame, anxiety, and depression. The Guidance Center urges everyone to create a culture of kindness and compassion both online and offline, offering help through the Student Success Office and the Guidance Center for those affected.
These initiatives also help us keep in step with our commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals particularly on Good Health and Well-being (SDG #3) as we follow the worldwide theme “Wellbeing for All”.
Furthermore, the Guidance Center has also introduced an alternative mental health service on campus—RESTORE Children & Family Services. Representatives from RESTORE are available during Wellness Wednesdays at the College Guidance Center lobby, offering support to students, staff, and faculty on their journey towards recovery and resilience.
